About Our SELPA

A Special Education Local Plan Area is a regional entity consisting of one or more charter schools, districts or county offices of education that ensures all services are provided to students with disabilities residing in its jurisdiction. By law, all charter schools in California must belong to a SELPA.

The Los Angeles County Charter SELPA partners with established and new charter schools to provide exemplary special education support and services. From assistance with start-up costs to finding dedicated service providers, our SELPA works with you every step of the way to ensure success of your special education program.

Los Angeles County Charter SELPA Community Advisory Committee

• Made up of parents, professionals and community members representing charter schools in the SELPA
• Majority of voting membership must be parents of children with special needs enrolled in charter schools within the SELPA
• Reviews and helps develop the Local Plan for Special Education required by state law
• Recommends annual priorities to be addressed by the SELPA
• Encourages parent participation and community involvement
• Assists in parent education and provides support to families with children receiving special education and related services
• All meetings open to the public — parents and other caregivers encouraged to attend to learn about what is happening in their children’s school and around the state, and receive other valuable information about special education
